Right to choose the husband

Image
These days woman are given right to speech, vote, education etc, . I mean equal civil rights as that of men. Still women are the ones who suffer domestic violence,  sexual harassment,  marital rapes and unhappy marriages.   Why???  Woman aren't given their deserved right to choose their spouse.  The most important thing in a life for a woman is marriage. A happy marriage and good spouse can make her life but the opposite can ruin her life.  My dear parents of girl children, the most important thing is you can give is,  please give them the opportunity or right to choose their spouse. This was the Vedic culture.   Do you know why woman's opinion is utmost priority in marriage?  However a educated or influential woman may be, still 99% of the marriages are arranged because women are still submissive to their parents happiness even letting go of their own life.  In manu samhita,  it is said that whenever a man has...

Serving one's Guru or Husband?

Image
mahat-sevāṁ dvāram āhur vimuktes One can attain the path of liberation from material bondage only by rendering service to highly advanced spiritual personalities. (Srimad Bhagavatam 5.5.2) The instruction is there, but how to we understand it depends on our realisation. We all know everyone is eager to serve Krsna and his devotees, because people have been cheated by serving materialistic persons, who just accepts service and cannot give us any benefit material or spiritual.  Although Srimad Bhagavatam encourages service to vaiśnavas is means of deliverance, there is another vedic injunction which Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has clearly set for his followers, female disciples to offer obeisances from a distance. Mahaprabhu, was very strict in dealings with women. For women devotees there are restrictions on the physical platform not on the spiritual advancement. Śrī Śacīmātā offered food at home to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu although He was far away in Jagannātha Purī, ...

FOUR FEMININE QUALITIES in Tamil literature

Image
The four feminine qualities, a woman must possess and a man should look for these characteristics in a woman. Physical beauty is not the only primary consideration in arranged marriages. In Love marriages, physical attraction is the primary condition. Anyway, a man appears beautiful to woman and vice versa under the influence of cupid. Most love marriage fails, because it is not actually love rather superficial attraction of senses. Sensible persons should know this, to look for the characteristics of the woman he wants to marry. Also, women should be trained in these virtues and they naturally possess 4 qualities, but being misled by influence of modernism, women are educated otherwise.  here are the four qualities of chaste women in sangam literature: Accham (fearfulness/ moral restraint or conscience) Madam (Innocence) Nanam (Shyness) Payrippu (fertility) FEAR Women shouldn't be daring bold, to commit sinful activities. Often, men misconstrue this as women must be coward....

Ahalya

Lord Ramacandra delivers Ahalya tumi rakṣa-kula-hantā jānakī-jīvana tumi guha-vara-dātā, ahalyā-mocana || 121 || You are the destroyer of the demoniac dynasties. You are the life of Sītā , the bestower of boons to Guha, and the deliverer of Ahalyā . (Caitanya Bhagavata 2.6.121) ye prabhu karilā ahalyāra vimocana bhajoṅ hena tribhuvana gurura caraṇa || 331 || “I worship the lotus feet of the master of the three worlds , who delivered Ahalyā . (Caitanya Bhagavata 3.4.331) One of the controversial or the most misunderstood section of Ramayana is Ahalya vimocana, salvation of Ahalya. As many of us are familiar with the story but not the hidden lesson for spiritualist. In Short, I shall attempt to describe this incident from Ramayana. WHile travelling through the adjacent forest of Mithila, Lord Rama and Lakshmana with sage visvamitra, noticed a deserted hermitage, Lord Rama inquired about this vacant asrama. Visvamitra narrated the past history of the Gautama Maharsi, who performed a...

Principles of chastity#4

Image
Principles of Chastity #4 Maintaining the vows  Married women keeping fasts for the welfare of husband is intrinsic to vedic culture. Various family traditions have different rituals or festivals, which comes once in year in indian household to name a few : Varalakshmi vrata, hariyali teej,  karva chauth, Kedari gowri vrata, etc; nowadays these are carried out as a matter of ritual. In Srimad bhagavatam, Narada Muni describes that it is duty of the married women to maintain vows regularly.  nityaṁ tad-vrata-dhāraṇam  What those vows which a chaste women needs to accept it always?   Vrata (व्रत) refers to “vow undertaken for self-purification and spiritual benefit”. Then dhäraëä. Dhäraëä means meditating, then the subject matter will be fixed up in your heart. It will not move. Not that every day I am meditating on some new subject, no. A chaste women is instructed here to meditate upon the husband everyday. This is referred as vow of chastity. Her thoughts, deed...

Principles of Chastity #3 Adapting with the Friends and relatives of the husband.

Image
Principle #3 Well Disposed towards Husband's family and Friends This is one of the essential factor in gaining the husband's heart. Often Prabhupada used to say Krsna is never alone. When we say Krsna, it also includes, his devotees, his eternal associates, his potencies, his paraphernalia etc.  Whenever we speak of Krsna, we refer to His devotees also, for He is not alone. He is never nirvisesa or sunya, without variety, or zero. Krsna is full of variety, and as soon as Krsna is present, there cannot be any question of void. (Srimad bhagavatam 4.23.35) When we speak of Kṛṣṇa, it does not mean Kṛṣṇa was alone. Kṛṣṇa means with His form, with His pastimes, with His paraphernalia, with His entourage, everything. When we speak of king, it does not mean king is alone. As soon as we speak of king, we must understand the king, king's kingdom, king's secretaries, king's ministers, king's queen, king's palace, so many things. ( Lecture on BG 1.10 -- London, July 12...

Two kinds of women

Image
Brahma divided women into two classes: one is a true form of womanhood and other is illusory. The true form of womanhood is a reflection of original goddesses. Wicked women are illusory representations of these goddesses.  From the Creator have come chaste and unchaste women. One is praiseworthy, the other is not. Examples of chaste women are Lakñmé, Sarasvaté, Durgä, Sävitré and Rädhä. Women who are expansions of them are auspicious, glorious and very commendable, such as Çatarüpa, Devahüti, Svadhä, Svähä, Dakñiëä, Anasüya, Gaìgä, Diti, Aditi, Vedavaté, etc. In every yuga cycle these women are excellent. The heavenly prostitutes are also expansions and partial expansions of the above women, but they are not praiseworthy because they are unchaste.   Women who are in the mode of goodness are virtuous and pure. The sages declare them to be excellent. But those who are in the modes of passion and ignorance are not so praiseworthy. The passionate ones are fond of sense plea...
